The World Cup may not have been successful, but at club level Thibaut Courtois did have a great 2022. At Real Madrid he was one of the strongholds and won four prizes: the Spanish national title, Champions League, Spanish and European Supercup.

That gave our compatriot 125 votes, compared to 110 for Martinez and 55 for Bono.

Courtois was already awarded by the IFFHS in 2018, then largely thanks to his performances at the World Cup in Russia, where he was also voted goalkeeper of the tournament.

Courtois already received the Lev Yashin trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d’Or gala in 2022 and is also a favorite in the best goalkeeper category on February 27 at the FIFA gala.
