Virgil van Dijk cannot play football for Liverpool for more than a month due to a muscle injury. That is what coach Jürgen Klopp said ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup. “It is a serious setback,” said the German. “He wasn’t in much pain. We thought it would be okay.”

At the beginning of this week, Van Dijk was out in the lost league match against Brentford. Afterwards, Klopp said he had replaced the captain of the Netherlands as a precaution. “Virgil wanted to continue playing, but I didn’t want to risk it,” he said.
“The diagnosis caught us by surprise,” Klopp continued. “He has not been there for weeks, certainly more than a month. Let’s hope he recovers as soon as possible. It is difficult for Virgil, but let’s not forget that he has played an incredible number of games in recent years.
