French ministries are visited by police in the investigation into the record transfer of Neymar to PSG

French police carried out house searches at the Ministries of Economy and Finance in Paris on Monday. This became known on Thursday. The searches are part of the investigation into fraud in Neymar’s record transfer from FC Barcelona to PSG in 2017. The Parisian club may have obtained an unfair tax advantage.

Former communications director Jean-Martial Ribes is particularly mentioned. He is said to have contacted Hugues Renson, the former vice-president of the French assembly, with the request to “ease” the tax burden of the transfer. Current Minister of the Interior Gérard Darmanin, then Minister of Finance, is also said to be involved.

Ribes was also charged last week in the case surrounding the 2021 Golden Ball election, in which PSG is said to have lobbied to award the award to Lionel Messi despite a bad year.

Monday’s searches were carried out by officers from the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Tax Fraud (Oclciff) and the General Inspectorate of the French Police (IGPN). Various departments of the ministries were thoroughly investigated.

Neymar came to PSG from FC Barcelona in 2017 for a record amount of 222 million euros. Last summer, the 31-year-old Brazilian left for the Saudi Al-Hilal for around 100 million euros, after 173 games in Paris employment.
