Kangaroos Mechelen suffers another defeat in Euroleague for women

Kangoeroes Mechelen lost 71-64 (half-time: 40-26) to the Hungarian Sopron in its eighth group match of the EuroLeague basketball for women’s teams on Thursday.

The Mechelen women completely gave away the match in Hungary in a dramatic first quarter (24-8). In the next quarter (16-18, 16-19 and 15-19) they were able to do something back, but it was no longer possible to close the gap completely.

Morgan Bertsch became the top scorer at Mechelen with 21 points, Ziomara Morrison scored 18 points, Heleen Nauwelaers scored 11 points.

It is already the seventh defeat for Mechelen. With 9 points, Arvid Diels’ team remains eighth and last in group B. The top four advance to the quarter-finals, the numbers five and six move to the EuroCup.

The Kangaroos will play their ninth game in the group stage of the EuroLeague next Thursday, at home against DVTK, another Hungarian opponent.
