Cristiano Ronaldo is not yet eligible to play for Al-Nassr. The club from Saudi Arabia has too many foreign players under contract after the arrival of the Portuguese star. This is reported by the French news agency AFP after discussions with Al-Nassr officials who wish to remain anonymous.

Al-Nassr has the maximum allowed number of eight foreign players under contract. Ronaldo is the ninth foreigner in the club’s squad. The Portuguese is only eligible to play if Al-Nassr sells a foreigner. According to various media from Saudi Arabia, midfielder Jalaluddin Masharipov from Uzbekistan has to make way for the five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or.
Al-Nassr would play football against Al-Ta’ee on Thursday. That game was postponed by a day at the last minute. The electricity at the Al-Nassr stadium was out, presumably because of the bad weather. It was already unclear whether Ronaldo could make his debut against Al-Ta’ee. The English Football Association suspended the attacker for two games in November, during his time as a Manchester United player. Ronaldo, however, did not serve that sentence.

Knock phone out of fan’s hand chases Ronaldo
According to the FIFA statutes, such a penalty must be taken over by an association of another country, if a suspended player was allowed to play there. In an explanation, however, the world football association says that in this case it is up to the Saudi federation to determine whether that actually happens.

Ronaldo knocked a phone out of the hands of a supporter who filmed him in April after the lost league match against Everton. The 37-year-old Portuguese, who was visibly annoyed, later apologized via social media. Months later, he was charged by the FA Disciplinary Committee.
Ronaldo has signed a contract with Al-Nassr that runs until the summer of 2025. The Portuguese will reportedly earn 200 million euros over the next 2.5 years. That amount could increase considerably if Saudi Arabia is allowed to organize the 2030 World Cup with the support of Ronaldo.
