Spain’s Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD) has upheld the three-day suspension for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski. The sentence was suspended last week after a decision by the Spanish arbitration board. As a result, the Pole was able to participate in the derby against Espanyol last Saturday.

Lewandowski received two yellow cards in half an hour against Osasuna on November 8, during the last competition match before the World Cup. He touched his nose disdainfully as he left the field. That was considered in Spain as a lack of respect for referee Jesus Gil Manzano. On top of the automatic suspension of one game, two more matches were played. According to Lewandowski, the gesture was a signal to trainer Xavi, and not to the referee.
The Spanish Football Federation has suspended the Barcelona striker for three match days. After the suspension of the sentence by the disputes committee, the TAD reconfirmed the suspension on Wednesday. The penalty will now take effect, so that Lewandowski would miss the games against Atlético Madrid (Sunday), Getafe (January 22) and Girona (January 29). The Catalans can appeal again.
