Cristiano Ronaldo may not be able to make his debut for Al-Nassr on Thursday. The reason is that the English Football Association FA suspended him for two games as a player of Manchester United in November. The Portuguese has not yet served that sentence.

According to the FIFA statutes, such a penalty must be taken over by an association of another country. However, in a statement, the World Football Association says that in this case it is up to the Saudi federation to determine whether that actually happens.

Ronaldo knocked a phone out of the hands of a supporter who filmed him in April after the lost league match against Everton. The 37-year-old Portuguese, who was visibly annoyed, later apologized via social media. Months later, he was charged by the FA Disciplinary Committee.

Ronaldo recently signed a contract with Al-Nassr until the summer of 2025. The Portuguese will reportedly earn 200 million euros over the next 2.5 years. That amount could increase considerably if Saudi Arabia is allowed to organize the 2030 World Cup with the support of Ronaldo.

Al-Nassr will play against Al-Ta’ee on Thursday.
