Leandro Trossard (28) will not renew his contract with Brighton. The Seagulls made several proposals to him in recent weeks, but the Red Devil ignored them. A summer transfer seems to be in the works.

The chance that Leandro Trossard will play for Brighton next season is small. The situation is as follows: Trossard still had a contract until June 2023, with the unilateral option for Brighton to extend the contract for a season. Sources around the English club say that that option has also been lifted in the meantime. Not to do so would be rather silly. After all, Trossard would already be a free player at the end of this season and would be allowed to negotiate with potential new clubs since January 1, who would then not have to pay a transfer fee.
Brighton has not only lifted the option in Trossard’s contract, it has also made several proposals to the Red Devil in recent weeks to extend his commitment. But Trossard ignored those proposals. After four seasons at Brighton, the Limburger feels ready for a step higher. With only one year left on his contract, the summer is the last option for Brighton to catch a decent transfer fee for Trossard.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle…?
The question remains where the future of Trossard lies. In recent months, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle, among others, have been mentioned. The first team has already acquired a new attacker with the Dutchman Cody Gakpo (23), the last two are logical given the link with Brighton. Chelsea coach Graham Potter had Trossard under his wing at Brighton for three seasons. Dan Ashworth, current Newcastle sporting director, was the man who brought Trossard to England in the summer of 2019.
At the moment, no option is really concrete yet. Most teams are currently busy with winter patchwork. Barring surprises, Trossard will therefore remain with Brighton until the end of the season and more will only become clear about his new club in the coming months.
