Radja Nainggolan says goodbye to Antwerp without repeating: “It’s a shame it has to end like this”

Radja Nainggolan has responded for the first time after his forced departure from Antwerp. The 34-year-old former Red Devil emphasizes that he will have good memories of many people at the club. He wishes his ex-teammates the very best. He does not say a word about Antwerp chairman Paul Gheysens.

“It is a pity that it has to end like this,” writes Radja Nainggolan on Instagram. The 34-year-old midfielder dissolved his contract with Antwerp on December 20 in mutual consultation with the club and had to remain silent until today for legal reasons. “I just want to say that I (near Antwerp, ed.) got to know a lot of good people: the medical staff, the White in demon and our team manager Sascha (Van de Sande, ed.). Lots of good teammates too. The only thing I want to say to my teammates is that they have to keep fighting to reach our goal: Play-off 1. I wish my teammates all the best. That’s all.”

Without wet steps

Two weeks ago, Antwerp chairman Paul Gheysens spoke clearly about his failed prestige transfer. “Disciplinary, he is no longer able to live as a top athlete.” Nainggolan was reportedly not amused with that statement by his ex-chairman, but he does not want to kick the bucket. For now, it is still unclear what the future of He Ninja lies. His ex-club Cagliari, now active in Serie B, beckons. But a lucrative proposal from the Middle East or the United States could also tempt Nainggolan.

Nainggolan has not yet thought of stopping. He wants to play football for at least another year and a half. He will be 36 after the 2023-2024 season. Only then does he want to hang the shoes on the hook. In the meantime, he is also focusing more and more on his post-career. For example, last year he founded RadLab, a company that specializes in the rental of private jets, luxury yachts and exclusive villas, among other things.
