Belgium no longer has a chance of qualifying for the Final 6 at the United Cup tennis (15 million dollars) in Australia. After the 6-1, 7-5 defeat of Elise Mertens (WTA 29) against the Greek Maria Sakkari (WTA 6), the chance of a group win was gone. Later Zizou Bergs (ATP 129) also lost against Mikhail Pervolarakis (ATP 506).

After the first day it was 1-1 between Belgium and Greece, after Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 72) won against Despina Papamichail (WTA 158) and David Goffin (ATP 53) lost against Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 4).

The defeat of Elise Mertens (WTA 29) against the Greek Maria Sakkari (WTA 6) killed the Belgians, after which Zizou Bergs (ATP 129) also surprisingly lost 5-7, 6-1 and 6-3 to the many longer ranked Mikhail Pervolarakis (ATP 506).

The final doubles match is currently underway between Sakkari and Tsitsipas for the Greeks and Flipkens and Geerts for Belgium.

The Belgians had previously lost their opening game against Bulgaria 2-3. Greece had beaten the Bulgarians, 4-1, and pushed through as the winner of group A.
