Vincent Kompany strengthens Championship lead with Burnley

Competition leader Burnley won 1-2 on the field of mid-engined Swansea City on Monday on the 26th matchday in the Championship, the English second division. The Clarets thus strengthened their first place.

Coach Vincent Kompany’s team led 0-2 halfway through the first half after two goals from Ian Maatsen. Shortly before half an hour, Oliver Cooper signed for the tying goal, but the home team didn’t get any closer.

With 56 points, Burnley now has a six-point lead over first pursuer Sheffield United in the standings. That will play later in the evening on the field of Queens Park Rangers.

In the French Ligue 1, Strasbourg, with Matz Sels between the posts, lost 2-3 to Troyes on the seventeenth matchday. Strasbourg remains in nineteenth and penultimate at the bottom with 11 points.
