New job for Ivan Leko: Croat becomes coach in his own country at Hajduk Split

Ivan Leko (44) returns to the old nest as a trainer. At Hajduk Split, the club where it all started for him, the Croat signed a contract until mid-2025.

“A very emotional moment,” Leko said at his appointment. “I knew there would come a time when I would coach Hajduk. Energy, passion and emotion: I will try to get that into the team. Hopefully the fans will enjoy watching our matches.”

Leko started his football career at Hajduk Split before ending up in Belgium via a stopover in Malaga. Here, in addition to being a player, he also became a trainer of Club Brugge and Anwerp. The last two seasons Leko worked at the Chinese Shanghai Port.
