In Brentford – Aston Villa the spectators got their money’s worth today: the extra time was no less than 13 minutes. There were no more goals scored, but there was a lot of pushing and pulling. With Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in a leading role.

Does he need an introduction? Martinez went around the world last year with his slightly inappropriate celebration after winning the World Cup with Argentina. Last month he won the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper in the world at the Golden Ball gala.

But Martinez also has some tricks up his sleeve. For example, he was bumped into by Neal Maupay in extra time of the match against Brentford. With a great sense of drama, the Argentinian then fell to the ground. He screamed in pain.

A little later, however, he took on the role of perpetrator by giving Maupay a big poke in the back. Now it was Maupay who in turn fell to the ground. But that was not to the liking of Martinez, who wanted to straighten the Brentford attacker quite brutally. The Argentinian fought so hard that he almost took off Maupay’s shirt.

When Maupay’s teammates took revenge on Martinez, the game was all set. Result: the necessary pushing and pulling and a red card for Boubacar Kamara. The French midfielder pulled substitute Yarmoluyk away from a teammate with the necessary force.
