LA LEAGUE. Coming in, scoring and taking a shower shortly afterwards: young Brazilian attacker claims a leading role in Barcelona’s victory

Vitor Roque. Remember his name. The 18-year-old attacker moved to Barcelona during the past winter trade, which paid no less than 40 million euros for the Brazilian teenager from Atletico Paranaense. On Saturday, Roque showed against Alaves why he is worth that amount.

Roque has been allowed to come on in every match for Barcelona so far and that was no different against Alaves. After an hour of play, teenager Ilkay Gündogan came on to replace the score at 1-2 in favor of Barça. And Roque immediately asserted himself, because barely four minutes after coming on as a substitute, he scored the 1-3 goal. His second league goal for the Catalans, as he also scored against Osasuna earlier this week.

The fact that Roque still sees green behind his ears was evident from the further course of the game. Four minutes after his goal, the Brazilian received a yellow card and less than five minutes later he was given a second card. Barely twelve minutes after coming on as a substitute, Roque was able to take a shower again.

At the Blaugrana they did not agree with the exclusion of Roque. Alaves defender Raf Marin pushed hard at Roque, who wanted to avoid the tackle and hit Marin’s right upper leg. The Barça players protested fiercely, but to no avail.

With one man less, Barcelona did not relinquish the double lead. The Catalans are alone in third place in the standings with 50 points. They follow six points from Girona and seven from Real Madrid, which will contest the top match against Atlético today.

Loss of points for Girona

Later in the day, Girona failed to claim top spot in La Liga. At home, the seasonal revelation did not go further than a draw against Real Sociedad. Girona did score once in the first half, but Yangel Herrera’s goal was canceled due to offside.
