The board of the Spanish football club Espanyol is missing on Saturday afternoon in protest at Camp Nou during the league match against fellow townsman FC Barcelona. Espanyol is angry that Barcelona can still have striker Robert Lewandowski, whose suspension was suspended a day before the game. Lewandowski was also in the base against Espanyol on Saturday afternoon.

The Polish top scorer of La Liga (thirteen goals in fourteen matches) was sent off with two yellow cards in the last league match before the World Cup. The Spanish federation initially suspended Lewandowski for three matches because he allegedly made an insulting gesture towards the referee.
Barcelona appealed against that sentence to the disputes committee. The committee decided 24 hours before the duel with Espanyol to temporarily lift the suspension, to the dismay of Barcelona’s opponent. According to Espanyol, this sets a “damaging precedent” for all clubs in La Liga. “We will support the team from a distance,” said the board. “Together we fight as one team for more than just 3 points.”
