The season in the Chinese Super League has ended with an anticlimax. Former Red Devil Marouane Fellaini and his team Shandong Taishan miss a second title in a row due to a new corona wave in China. The title went to Wuhan Three Towns, where a former Anderlecht flop plays.

Saturday was normally the final day of play in the Chinese highest class. Due to a sharp increase in corona cases, Beijing Guoan, the opponent of Shandong Taishan, and Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, the opponent of competitor Wuhan Three Towns, have to give up. The matches will not be made up and Wuhan Three Towns takes its first national title…. thanks to a better goal difference.
Shandong Taishan also took a forfeit win on the penultimate match day due to a corona outbreak at opponent Meizhou Hakka. Wuhan Three Towns won 2-0 against Zhejiang Professional on the field. That now appears to be enough for the national title. Wuhan Three Towns ends the league with 78 points, equal to Shandong Taishan. However, Wuhan Three Towns has a better goal difference than Shandong Taishan. This is decisive in the event of an equal number of points.
The Wuhan Three Towns championship is a big surprise in China. The team of the Romanian Nicolae Stanciu, ex-Anderlecht, has been champion in the Chinese third and second division respectively for the past two years.
Last season, Fellaini and Shandong Taishan took the national title in China.
