Marc Overmars, director of football affairs of Antwerp, became unwell last night and was admitted to hospital with a mild stroke. That is what the Great Old communicated on Friday evening. Overmars is doing well, but will have to take it easy for a while.

Marc and his family focus on his recovery and do not wish to comment further. “RAFC wishes Marc a speedy recovery!”
Marc Overmars had to leave Ajax in early 2022 after several allegations of transgressive behaviour. Shortly afterwards, Overmars found shelter near Antwerp. There, the former Dutch international was presented as the new technical director at the end of March. This appointment came in for a lot of criticism in the media, but the Great Old then stated that it was “a club that wants to give people a second chance” and that Overmars had been told “what the norms and values of Antwerp are”.
In his football career, the 49-year-old Dutchman defended the colors of his youth club Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II, Ajax, Arsenal and Barcelona. He also played 86 times for the Orange.
