Bulgaria is the first opponent of the Belgian tennis players in the United Cup on Saturday in Perth, Australia. Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 28), both player and captain of the Bulgarian team, is looking forward to it with confidence. “I respect every opponent, but also believe that I can beat anyone.”

It will be the second game for the Bulgarians, in the first they suffered a 4-1 defeat against Greece. “But the difference was small. We missed opportunities in our first two games. Shinikova was leading a set and a break when she got cramps and I only had to give up on Tsitsipas in the tiebreak of the third set. However, I thought I was the better player in that third set, but it came down to details. Of course we are disappointed, but we are certainly not exhausted and look forward to making things right against the Belgians. We believe in it.”
In the second singles match, Dimitrov will face David Goffin (ATP 53). The 31-year-old Bulgarian leads 8-2 in the mutual duels, but lost the most recent meeting: 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in 2020 at the ATP Cup in Sydney. “I will prepare as best I can for the confrontation with Goffin and I feel ready for a top performance. The condition is good and I am full of positive energy. I feel that everything is falling into place little by little.”
