Felix Sanchez’s term as national coach of Qatar has come to an end. The 47-year-old Spaniard’s contract expires on December 31 and has not been extended. The Qatari football federation announced this on Friday.

Sanchez has been the national coach of Qatar since 2017. Before that, the former Barcelona youth coach was already at the Aspire Academy and as a coach of the U19 and U23 in Qatari employment. In 2019 he led the oil state to a historic title at the Asian championship, but this winter he was unable to save Qatar from being eliminated in the group stage at the World Cup in his own country.

“Both sides agree that now is the right time to start a new chapter,” the federation said in a statement.
