Kylian Mbappé was again the hero with his team Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, barely ten days after France lost the World Cup final in Qatar. The French star attacker gave PSG the victory (2-1) with a penalty goal deep in extra time against Matz Sels’ Strasbourg. Then he looked back for the first time on the lost World Cup final with France.

In a spectacular final in Qatar, Argentina and France kept each other in balance after 90 (2-2) and 120 minutes (3-3). Mbappé scored the three French goals, two of which on penalty, and also used his eleven-meter in the penalty series. However, that did not stop Lionel Messi’s Argentines, who won 4-2 in the penalties, from the world title.

“As I said to my teammates, there is no reason for the club to bear the consequences of the World Cup disappointment. PSG and the French national team are two different situations,” said Mbappé, who admitted having experienced “difficult hours” after the World Cup final. “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to digest it. But it is good to win with PSG again, to have a bond with the club, the fans and the teammates.”

The 24-year-old goalgetter did not take a holiday after the World Cup and immediately appeared again at PSG. “We spoke before the final and I told the coach that I would come back no matter the result because I felt good and wanted to keep playing because we have two important games,” he said.
