Union has to look for a new trainer after it suddenly said goodbye to Karel Geraerts on Wednesday evening, especially since the first training sessions for the new season will start next week. Union has prepared a list of candidate successors.

RWDM trainer Vincent Euvrard was mentioned in real estate circles, but doesn’t know anything about it yet. What is in the picture is Alexander Blessin. The 50-year-old German has also been mentioned at Club Brugge and Standard in recent months, but the facts are that he has been out of work since December. Then he was fired from the Italian Genoa, with which he was relegated the season before.

Union is looking for a trainer who is not afraid to work with less sounding names and who is also able to make those players better. Blessin, an adept of the Red Bull school, fits that profile. He proved this in those one and a half seasons at KV Oostende, until Genoa took him away in January 2022.(vva, pjc, kvu)
