With the death of Ruud Geels, Dutch football has lost another celebrity. The baker’s son from Haarlem was a trendsetter in the Dutch and Belgian fields for almost twenty years and had an incredible Tor instinct. Geels scored no fewer than 388 goals as a professional and was crowned top scorer in the Eredivisie five times. In Belgium he never became top scorer despite spells at Club Brugge and Anderlecht, although he did win the national title with Club. But despite all those successes, he never really felt comfortable in the football world.
