Michy Batshuayi scored his second hat-trick for Fenerbahçe on Wednesday evening. The 30-year-old Red Devil scored three times against seasonal revelation Kayserispor on the seventeenth matchday in the Turkish Süper Lig. That was necessary, because the Turkish cup winner only narrowly won: 3-4.

It was not Batshuayi, but Cengiz Under (8.) who opened the scoring for the visitors. Five minutes before half-time, Batshuayi doubled the lead with a loud bang into the roof of the goal. After Olivier Kemen’s tying goal (45+4.), the Red Devil seemed to decide the match early in the second half, but the home team fought back through a penalty from Mame Thiam (56.) and a goal from Miguel Cardoso (73. ). Batshuayi (79.) himself put the crown on the job just over ten minutes before the end from the penalty spot with his third of the evening. Fenerbahçe ended the match with two men less after a direct red card for Fred (90+8.) and two yellow cards for Mert Hakan Yandas (90+11.).

For the Belgian striker it is the fourth hat trick of his career. He previously repeated that feat in 2013 at Standard against KV Oostende (2-4 win), in 2017 at Chelsea against Nottingham Forest (5-1 win) and last season against Istanbulspor (2-5 win).

In the standings, Fenerbahçe currently takes a three-point lead over Dries Mertens’ Galatasaray, which will host Karagumruk later on Wednesday (6 p.m.). Kayserispor follows in third place at fourteen points.
