Former footballer Gerard Piqué critical of Real Madrid’s last Champions League victory, coach Ancelotti: “He lives in his own world”

Former footballer Gerard Piqué and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti can drink each other’s blood. Why? The former Barcelona defender recently criticized De Royal’s last Champions League victory by stating that “it was a miracle that Real won the 2022 edition”. Ancelotti has since responded to him.

At the Catalan radio station RAC1, Piqué recently spoke out about the successes of rival Real Madrid. “They don’t have much to offer, but they always get results and when it is February, they still have a chance to win every competition – such as the Champions League,” the Spaniard initially said with some praise. But then he hands out one shot after another.

“When Barcelona wins the Champions League, everyone remembers it. That is not the case at Real. If they win the cup, they simply add another title to their collection. But if Real actually wins the Champions League, they will simply add another title to their wide collection. Take last year, their most recent final victory was truly a miracle as they raced their way to the final (In both the quarter and semi-finals, Real indeed crawled through a very small gap against Chelsea and Man City respectively, ed.). No one will remember that triumph,” said 35-year-old Piqué, who contested 616 matches during his active period with the Blaugrana.

Real Madrid has so far achieved a record number of 14 CL final victories, Barcelona has five so far.

Response

Piqué’s quotes came to the attention of Real coach Carlo Ancelotti after the simple 3-0 home win against Portuguese Braga on Wednesday.

“Gerard Piqué lives in his own world,” the Italian coach was strict. “That world is not the same one that Real fans live in. I can assure him that none of our fans will forget the fourteenth final victory. Really no one. That edition will be remembered forever.”
