Polish top striker Robert Lewandowski will wear a blue-and-yellow captain’s armband in support of Ukraine at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He got the band from the Ukrainian football icon Andriy Shevchenko in Warsaw on Tuesday.
Poland will play against the Orange in the Nations League on Thursday.

‘An honour’
“Thank you, Andrej. It was a pleasure to meet you! It will be an honor for me to wear this captain’s armband in the national colors of Ukraine at the World Cup,” the FC Barcelona professional wrote on Instagram, posting a photo of himself and Shevchenko placed. Poland will face Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in Group C at the World Cup (20 November – 18 December).
Ukraine has not qualified for the FIFA World Cup.
