In Spain they don’t laugh about it: four years in prison demanded for men who hung a doll on a bridge wearing the Vinicius Jr shirt

Four men have been sentenced to four years in prison for hanging a doll from a bridge in January to represent Real Madrid striker Vinícius Júnior. The doll, dressed in the Brazil international’s shirt, was hung in a noose from a bridge close to Real Madrid’s training center, an act by Atlético Madrid fans. There was also a banner with the text ‘Madrid hates Real’.

The doll was hung shortly before the derby between the two Madrid teams. Police arrested four men in May for what was described as a ‘hate crime’. The prosecutor accused the men, all members of the ultra group Frente Atlético, of threatening the player and violating his fundamental rights. The demand was four years in prison.
