PREMIER LEAGUE. Liverpool on a roll, Arsenal (without injured Trossard) draws in derby, Chelsea does not win again

After a difficult last season, Liverpool is back on track. Against West Ham they took their sixth consecutive win in all competitions, making them 17 games unbeaten in a row in the Premier League. The London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham ended 2-2 after a spectacular match, but neither team made any progress with that point. Things are going from bad to worse at Chelsea. It lost 0-1 at Aston Villa, the third Premier League match in a row without a win.

Darwin Nunez crowned Liverpool’s victory with a fantastic goal after a splitting pass from Mac Allister.

However, West Ham did not make it easy for Liverpool and had the best chances in the initial phase. The misses cost them badly, because after fifteen minutes Mohamed Salah snagged Nayef Aguerd’s leg in the box. The Egyptian converted the penalty himself.

West Ham managed to level before half-time when Jarrod Bowen dived at the feet of Virgil van Dijk and scored with a nice low header, his fourth goal of the season.

After a number of great chances for Liverpool, Nunez scored after catching Alexis Mac Allister’s beautiful pass, much to the delight of Anfield.

That goal took the wind out of the Hammers’ sails and substitute Diogo Jota was able to score a third goal in the 85th minute, four minutes after coming off the bench.

The victory puts Liverpool in second place with 16 points, two behind leaders Manchester City.

Trossard misses derby with minor muscle injury

Arsenal and Tottenham divided the points in the North London derby on matchday 6 of the Premier League. At the Emirates, Arsenal took the lead twice, but also gave it away twice (2-2).

Bukayo Saka (25”) broke the spell for Arsenal when the England international came in and his shot deflected off Cristian Romero’s leg.

Spurs were unfazed and Arsenal keeper David Raya made some great saves to keep the lead on the board. Just before half time, Tottenham tied the score with a goal from Heung-Min Son (44”).

After the break, the same Romero committed handball in the sixteen-meter area. The English referee ruled a penalty. Saka (54”) put it in through the middle. Jorginho then choked on the Gunners’ build-up, after which James Maddison Son (55”) released and he did not miss face to face with Raya. Leandro Trossard had to drop out at the end with a minor muscle injury and did not play.

At the same time in West London, Chelsea’s swan song continued. This time the Blues lost to Aston Villa (0-1) at Stamford Bridge. Malo Gusto (58”) first got red after a distasteful foul on Lucas Digne’s leg, fifteen minutes later Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game. Roméo Lavia was not in the Blues’ selection, the Red Devil is still out with an ankle injury. Youri Tielemans came on ten minutes before the end, Leander Dendoncker (90”+1”) came on at the very end.

Manchester City (which won 2-0 against Nottingham Forest on Saturday) remains authoritatively in the lead with 18 out of 18. Liverpool, which won 3-1 against West Ham, follows on two points, Brighton (which despite a mistake by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen won 3-1 against Bournemouth) on three points.

Tottenham and Arsenal are joint fourth on four units. At the bottom, Chelsea started the season in fourteenth place with 5 out of 18.
