Bayern Munich chairman Herbert Hainer expressed his protest on Sunday evening against the new expanded Club World Cup, which was proposed on Sunday by World Football Association FIFA. He warned about the extra burden on the players in the already very busy football calendar.

Hainer spoke to the German press after Bayern’s 3-0 league win against Stuttgart. “Bayern players already have club, league, national cup and European competitions. But most of the boys are also international. This adds up again. That is clearly a problem for us,” he indicated.

World football association FIFA presented the new expanded World Cup for club teams on Sunday. The first edition will be held in the United States and will last from June 15 to July 13, 2024. A total of 63 matches are planned.

Twelve participating teams are from Europe, with a limit of two teams per country, unless that country has a Champions League winner. The last three Champions League winners, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City, are certainly already there. Based on the current ranking, Real Madrid, Benfica, FC Porto, PSG, Bayern Munich and Inter from Europe will also be allowed to participate, just like this year’s Champions League winner. The final three European teams will be determined based on the UEFA club ranking. Teams can only collect points in the Champions League this season. Belgian teams are therefore not eligible.
