Last Monday, an independent committee ruled that Nottingham Forest violated the Financial Fair Play rules in the period between 2020 and 2023. For this, the club of our compatriots Matz Sels and Divock Origi has received a deduction of four points. Forest is now appealing against that decision.

According to the Premier League, Nottingham Forest admitted to losing £34.5 million (€40 million) more than allowed. For Nottingham, which was promoted to the Premier League last year, the allowed amount is 61 million pounds (71 million euros).

Over a three-year period, Premier League clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of 105 million pounds (123 million euros), but 22 million will be deducted for each season the club spent in the second division.

Earlier this season, Everton were deducted ten points for a similar violation, but this was reduced to six points on appeal.

On the other hand, Forest's (provisional) points deduction is good news for Vincent Kompany's Burnley. Forest currently occupies the last relegation spot with 21 points. Burnley is just below that with 17 points. There are still nine matchdays to go in England. The Luton Town of Sambi Lokonga and Thomas Kaminksi is currently in a safe haven at places 17 and 22 points.
