Pep Guardiola sees Manchester City flourishing with royal couple De Bruyne-Haaland: “You don’t have to study for that”

With a home match against low-flying Everton, Manchester City opens the debates on the 24th matchday in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon (1:30 PM). Provided a home win, the Citizens will at least temporarily take over the leading position from Liverpool, which will host Vincent Kompany’s Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

With about a third of the competition to go, the difference between leader Liverpool and first pursuer City is barely two points, while Pep Guardiola’s troops have one game less under their belt. The reigning national champion has been busy catching up in recent months. In recent weeks, they have also been able to count on pivot Kevin De Bruyne, who missed the first round due to a hamstring injury, and goal machine Erling Haaland, who was sidelined with a foot injury.

Against Everton, the golden duo will probably kick off together for the first time this season in a home match.

Guardiola previously said that City do not necessarily play better with KDB and Haaland at kick-off, but that they do win more games with them in the team. “That’s simple: such players win games on their own,” the Catalan said during the press conference on Friday. “If a player scores sixty times, that helps him win games. The same goes for a player with a billion assists and goals. You don’t have to go to Harvard or Yale to understand that.”
