“We manage it with the players we have”: Brian Riemer gives transfer and injury update at Anderlecht

Anderlecht is looking for its first win in 2024 against KV Mechelen. It looks like Brian Riemer will start again with Kristian Arnstad as left back. The coach indicated that the mercato is closed on the incoming side. The injured Augustinsson, Delaney and Sardella may return a little sooner.

It depends on how you look at it. Anderlecht has not yet won in 2024, but Brian Riemer also points out that the people of Brussels have achieved a run of 14 matches without defeat in the competition. “That is also quite impressive,” said the Dane. “Fortunately, confidence does not disappear after a loss of points. We will also do everything we can to win against KV Mechelen.”

There was good news from the infirmary. Okay, Moussa N’Diaye went under the knife for pubalgia and is out for a few months, but Killian Sardella, Thomas Delaney and Ludwig Augustinsson see the healing process going smoothly. The trio can possibly be recovered next week against Charleroi or the week after against STVV. Behind De Kazerne, Riemer will probably count on Kristian Arnstad as left back again. “We also look at it from a tactical perspective,” he continued. “Arnstad has already played more than 50 matches for Anderlecht and can relax there. Although Mohamed Bouchouari also remains an option. I threw him to the lions last week in a difficult match against Union. That was not easy, but Bouchouari has the potential.”

Anderlecht has been looking for a left-footed central defender who could also play as a left back. The names of Marco Pellegrino (AC Milan) and Malang Sarr (Chelsea) were mentioned, but they turned out to be difficult files. “I can say that we will no longer make incoming transfers,” Riemer remembered. “We are going to manage it with the players that are there. If necessary, Jan Vertonghen can also play at left back. And with Federico Gattoni we have a new central defender who can also help.

Only that Argentinian is a righty. Riemer is full of praise for it. “Federico will be an added value. He is already very mature. He came here with his wife, he had learned English in Seville in six months and he immediately said: Brian, tell me what I should do to help the team. Yesterday I sat with him for half an hour to discuss some tactical matters. It’s a lot to say that he speaks fluent English, but he understood me, I think (laughs). Gattoni is an aggressive defender who puts a lot of pressure forward. He is also good at building up. I look forward to seeing him perform.”

Lissens to Denmark

Behind the Barracks we can also expect Dolberg at rush hour again. In addition, we have to wait and see who will leave Anderlecht. There is a real chance that Amadou Diawara will look for other places and possibly also Benito Raman. Alexis Flips has decided to stay. “It is certainly still an option for players to leave. We have made it clear to some boys (Raman, ed) what the future prospects are, but all factors in such a transfer must also be right: location, the financial side…”

Who has left is Lucas Lissens (22). The center back of the RSCA Futures. He moves permanently to Lyngby, Denmark. “We are very grateful to Lucas,” concluded Riemer. “He played football for Anderlecht for fourteen years and at a certain point you have to make choices. We tried to help him with a definitive breakthrough here, but that didn’t happen. Last summer we were also looking forward to a loan. Now was the moment. Lyngby is a well-respected club in Denmark and they really wanted him. Amando Lapage is also knocking on our door and he is four years younger.”
