Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic Travel Together to Indian Wells Tennis Tournament

Rafael Nadal will be at the start of the Indian Wells tournament (March 6-17) in a week and a half, but already took a plane to the American state of California on Friday. A surprising fellow passenger: none other than Novak Djokovic. The two tennis legends met up and took a photo together.

Nadal will celebrate his comeback at the Indian Wells tournament, since he suffered a muscle tear during the quarter-finals at the Brisbane tournament at the beginning of this season. The 37-year-old Spaniard was initially going to do this on the tennis court of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open (19-24 February) in Doha, but due to new pain he had to drop out.

“I am 100 percent convinced that I will be there at the Indian Wells. It is a special tournament for me and it may be my last chance to play there again, so I definitely want to be there,” the 22-time Grand Slam winner said at the time. Nadal has won the Indian Wells tournament three times (2007, 2009 and 2013), Djokovic has done so five times (2008, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016). “Good company on the way to the United States,” the 36-year-old Serbian wrote on Instagram.
