Due to the lack of a definitive CEO of the football association, there was no immediate clarity about when discussions with national coach Domenico Tedesco would start. Piet Vandendriessche, the new CEO of the football association, is now speaking clearly a week after his official appointment.

“I have already spoken to Tedesco for an hour and a half,” said Vandendriessche. “That happened in a friendly atmosphere. I let him know that we are going to talk about his contract extension. We cannot deny that it worked very well. Tedesco has rejuvenated the team and qualified for the European Championship two matchdays before the end. He put many positive accents. We would like to complete that contract extension before the European Championship.”

“In this way we want to show our appreciation for the work he has done. We will discuss this together with Jelle Schelstraete (operational director of football, ed.). This is not my opinion of the supporter, but of the sporting cell. We want to speak clearly, that we have confidence in his work,” he said.

Vandendriessche does not want to get involved in the Courtois case. “A lot has been written and spoken about this. According to my information, there are no new elements. I leave that matter to the sporting department.” (lvdw)
