A full hour with one more man was not enough for STVV to score a goal. And so it remained at 1-1 against OH Leuven, which had already been on the board for eighteen minutes. Oscar Garcia takes his first point as OHL coach, but undoubtedly hoped for more. He sees his team drop back to the penultimate place after Westerlo’s victory.

The start was for the Canaries. Hashioka had a first chance, but did not cause goalkeeper Leysen any problems. The opening goal came immediately afterwards. After a clever attack, Zahiroleslam ran into the back of the Leuven defense and scored the 1-0 goal after just over five minutes. The American was then able to immediately score his second, but decided high over.

Out of nowhere, OHL managed to equalize just after fifteen minutes. Thorsteinsson aimed a cross perfectly at the head of Brunes, who headed in well at the near post. The goal gave the people of Leuven, who had started the game very defensively, confidence. They grew in the competition and dared more and more. That lasted until just over half an hour. Then the match took a new turn, as Sagrado received a red card. He mowed down Bocat with a pair of scissors, but Jan Boterberg’s red was strict. Oscar Garcia then brought in goalscorer Brunes for Dom.

Strong Leysen

STVV tried to play out the manmeer situation, and Koita in particular tried to do that. He first kicked Leysen and immediately afterwards the post. However, at half time it was still 1-1. Even after the breaks, the Canaries continued in their attempt to outplay the visitors. Godeau was able to head towards the goal, but aimed wide. Moments later it was up to Ito, but a strong Leysen was able to push the ball into a corner. Moments later, Leysen made an even better save on an attempt by substitute Kaya. Then it was up to Koita. He gave a great free kick from very far away, but his ball went over.

The game image remained the same in the end. STVV pressed, OHL held firm. Fifteen minutes before the end, Koita first decided just wide, then Leysen kept his team upright once again when a confused header headed towards his goal. In injury time, substitute Barnes and again Koita also had nice opportunities, but the home team ultimately found no opening and had to settle for a point.
