Swedish football legend and vice world champion Kurt Hamrin has passed away at the age of 89

Former attacker Kurt Hamrin, who became vice world champion with Sweden in 1958, has died at the age of 89. Hamrin was the only living footballer who was on the field during the 1958 World Cup final.

In the final of that world championship they eventually lost 5-2 to Pelé’s Brazil. Hamrin finished the tournament with four goals to his name.

At club level he played in Sweden and Italy. In Serie A he scores a truckload of goals, successively for Juventus, Padua, Fiorentina, AC Milan and Napoli. He scored a total of 190 goals, good for ninth place on the all-time rankings.

In 1972, Hamrin ended his career in his own country with IFK, after starting it twenty years earlier at AIK.
