| Max Verstappen outsmarted Valtteri Bottas: ‘It was on the border’

Max Verstappen won the Mexican Grand Prix thanks to 1 sublime moment. The Dutchman was alert during the start and braked for turn 1 later than Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. With this, Verstappen surprised Bottas in particular.

“You know: you can do it here, past it in turn 1. But you have to do it very precisely on cold tires. But it was necessary, crucial to get ahead of that. Of course you can’t predict how the start will go, but I knew exactly where I wanted to brake,” said the Dutchman AD.

“Tricky it will remain, because it was completely on the border. If someone braked late on the inside, I would have left the track for sure. But it went well.”

Bottas surprised
Polesitter Bottas was overwhelmed by Verstappen’s action. The Finn did not expect the Dutchman to brake so late. That’s what he said in front of the camera Ziggo Sports. “Max got a slipstream from me and he braked really late for Turn 1,” he said. “I thought he was going to shoot straight, but he kept the car on the track.”
