Daria Kasatkina (WTA-28) won 6-2 and 6-4 against Jil Teichmann (WTA-39), after which Liudmila Samsonova (WTA-40), who replaced the injured Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (WTA-12), a double play unnecessary made by beating Olympic champion Belinda Bencic (WTA-17) 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.
The Billie Jean King Cup is the successor to the Fed Cup. It was won four times by Russia: in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
