Russia is stronger than Switzerland and wins first edition of Billie Jean King Cup tennis


Russia won the first edition of the Billie Jean King Cup in Prague on Saturday. In the final, it defeated Switzerland 2-0.

Daria Kasatkina (WTA-28) won 6-2 and 6-4 against Jil Teichmann (WTA-39), after which Liudmila Samsonova (WTA-40), who replaced the injured Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (WTA-12), a double play unnecessary made by beating Olympic champion Belinda Bencic (WTA-17) 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.

The Billie Jean King Cup is the successor to the Fed Cup. It was won four times by Russia: in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
