Cyril Ngonge zet Groningen met absolute wereldgoal op weg naar winst tegen AZ

Groningen lifted itself out of the danger zone on Sunday evening with a great 2-0 victory against AZ on the tenth match day of the Eredivisie.

It was Cyril Ngonge who set the Northern Dutchmen on their way to a win with the 1-0 in the 20th minute. Ngonge scored with a scorpion kick, a back heel. His goal is immediately mentioned in the Netherlands as a contender for the Puskas Award, the prize for the most beautiful goal in the world.

Michael de Leeuw signed for the 2-0 20 minutes before time. The win is a boost for Groningen, as it is only the second of the season. It moves to 15th place, the first safe place above the relegation places. AZ is eleventh with 12 points. After a failed start to the season with 9 out of 9 in the previous matches, it had started the remonte upwards.

Afterwards, Ngonge was of course delighted with the goal in the Dutch press. “It’s hard to describe my goal,” he began. “The ball came behind me and really this was the only solution. It was certainly conscious. He is of course very good. You must have that luck. I am very happy with my goal. It is by far the best goal of my career. I don’t quite realize it yet. But that will certainly come in the coming days. The euphoria after the goal was great. I immediately wanted to celebrate with the fans. It was fantastic.”
