EUROPE LEAGUE. Lyon and Denayer correct the crooked situation, PSV and Vertessen run into a loss



On the third day of the Europa League, seven other matches were scheduled in addition to West Ham-Genk (3-0) on Thursday evening, in which a number of Belgians played.

Lyon, puts Jason Denayer in the heart of the defence, soon faced a double deficit with Sparta Prague at the hands of Lukas Haraslin (4. and 19.). Karl Ekambi (42.) brought the tension back. Dries Mertens got his first starting spot of the season at Napoli, for his own people against Legia Warsaw (3-0). There was no goal halfway through. Mertens was taken to the side more than fifteen minutes before time and afterwards the Italians would make three more. Lorenzo Insigne saved the Neapolitans in the 76th minute. Victor Osimhen (80.), ex-Charleroi, took away the last doubts and Matteo Politano (90.+5) set the pinnacle. Legia nevertheless remains the leader in Group C with 6 out of 9, ahead of Napoli and Leicester (4 points each). Spartak Moscow closes the row with three points.


Yorbe Vertessen saw from the Eindhoven bench how Myron Boadu gave Monaco the lead in the Philips Stadium of PSV. Cody Gakpo rebalanced the plates just before the hour. Vertessen was three minutes between the lines at the time of the equalizer. Yet the final chord for the visitors was via Sofiane Diop (89.). The 1-2 triumph only puts the Monegasque in the lead with 7 out of 9 in Group B, ahead of the Sociedad of Adnan Januzaj, who was allowed to show up from the first whistle in and against Sturm Graz (0-1). Alexander Isak (69.) broke the spell for the Basques halfway through the second half. Sociedad has 5 out of 9, PSV 4. Sturm Graz has not yet collected a single point.

In the group of Antwerp, which grabbed a point earlier in the day at Fenerbahçe (2-2), Frankfurt and Olympiakos (3-1) came into action on German soil. Youssef El Arabi erased Rafael Borre (26.) 1-0 after half an hour, but Almamy Toure (45.+3) managed to get a new lead for Frankfurt in the ultimate end of the first half. Daichi Kamada (59.), ex-STVV, deepened the gap to two goals. Frankfurt (7 out of 9) jumps over Olympiakos (6 out of 9) to the leading position. Fenerbahçe (2 pts.) and Antwerp (1 pts.) follow at a distance.

In the remaining matches, Galatasaray narrowly won at Lokomotiv Moscow (0-1) and Rangers in Glasgow was too strong for Brondby (2-0).
