Cristiano Ronaldo loves it: breaking records. And so he will be happy with this Saturday night. He was drafted by Portugal national coach Fernando Santos. It also concerned a practice game against Qatar. It did mean the superstar’s 181st cap and no one in Europe has that many caps to his name.
He has shared the record with Sergio Ramos since September. However, the Spaniard has been passed by national coach Luis Enrique and is also still struggling with an injury.
If he wants to break the world record, Ronaldo still has to go on. Malaysian hero Soh Chin Ann won 219 caps between 1969 and 1984.
In the 3-0 win over Qatar, Ronaldo was also responsible for a goal. Meanwhile, Santos gave a sneer to Ronaldo’s manager at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. “He needs to get to playing. His last whole game was in the Champions League. If he only plays against Luxembourg, he will have had almost 15 days without playing intensively.”
