Mertens to second round doubles
Elise Mertens and Taiwanese Hsieh Su-Wei have qualified for the second round of the doubles at the prestigious WTA tournament in Indian Wells (hard) on Friday (8,150,470 dollars).
Mertens and Hsieh Su-Wei, second seed in the tournament, beat American Amanda Anisimova and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 6-1, 6-1 in 49 minutes.
Kirsten Flipkens was unable to qualify for the second round of the doubles on Friday. On the side of the Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo, Flipkens lost 6-7, 6-3, 6-10 to the Japanese Makoto Ninomiya and the American Sabrina Santamaria.

Gillé and Vliegen place themselves after thriller
Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen qualified for the second round (eighth finals) of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells on Friday (hard/8,359,455).
Gillé and Vliegen defeated the Spanish duo Roberto Bautista Agut/Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.
In the second round, the Belgians face either the Chilean-Mexican tandem Cristian Garin/Santiago Gonzalez or the Croatian-Brazilian duo Ivan Dodig/Marcelo Melo.
