Defending champion Ostend did book a nice 81-88 win against Limburg United on Friday evening in Hasselt, but the red-yellows lost their American center Brandon McCoy for a few months.

In the 34th minute of the Limburg United-Filou Oostende match, Brandon McCoy stepped into the bucket during an attack by Ostend. Clifford Hammonds quickly sprinted towards him and made rather rash contact with the American from Ostend. No doubt Hammonds had no intention of injuring his opponent, but it was a serious foul. Intentionally or unintentionally, with no ball nearby. However, the refs Krehic, Van Looy and Vanderheyden blew no foul for Hammonds’ intervention. Immediately McCoy left the premises. The verdict was harsh. McCoy sustained an injury to the cruciate ligament of his knee. The former American U19 international will be out for months. Ostend has to look for a replacement for its center.
