With the arrival of Okapi Aalstar, Leuven Bears will look for a fourth victory in a row in the Elite Silver against their own people on Wednesday evening. “It’s great that we still have a chance of making it to the play-offs,” says Danny Marguillier of the board of directors.

Marguillier is back with Leuven Bears. “From 2005, I was a board member of the Bears for about ten years. I then moved to Hasselt and contributed to the new Limburg United project. Until health issues made me take a break from basketball in 2016.”

Due to his health, he moved to Malaga, Spain. “I feel good at the moment and I was itching to get back into the sport. In November 2023 I returned to the board of directors of Leuven Bears.”

Marguillier admits it was a turbulent few months for the Bears. “The American substitutions, all those injuries and those many administrative problems really hurt us. Anyway, there’s no point in looking back. We are working on a great project and I am especially delighted that there is now a response after the poor regular competition. The team has trained intensely over the past two months and it shows. Coach Eddy Casteels is also finishing the season professionally. I hope we can extend our winning streak and ultimately qualify for the play-offs. The fact that we provided clarity in February about Casteels’ farewell after this season may have helped. Everyone now knows what’s going on. It would be great for both the players and the sporting staff to end the season on a positive note. With the arrival of Okapi, another important duel follows. A fourth win in a row and some better results in the other results could put us fully on course for the play-offs.

Is John Fulkerson returning?

Furthermore, they at Leuven Bears hope that John Fulkerson will make his comeback in a few weeks. The 26-year-old and 2m06 tall American center, who is in his second season with the Bears, only played six games this season due to a knee injury. Fulkerson has started the training sessions cautiously. If there is no response, his comeback is gradually in sight.
