It was Belgium’s third victory. After a 3-0 win against Azerbaijan, the girls of coach Gert Vande Broek lost 0-3 to defending champion Serbia, which won bronze at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. They then defeated Russia 3-2. A final game in group A against France will follow on Thursday, but the Tigers are already certain of a place in the top four. The 1/8th finals start on Saturday.
The European Championship takes place in four different cities and 24 countries participate. The other three groups are in Plovdiv in Bulgaria, Zadar in Croatia and Cluj-Napoca in Romania.
Last spring, the Tigers finished ninth in the Nations League with eight wins (six of them 3-2) and seven defeats. At the previous European Championship in 2019, Belgium finished third in its group, but then lost to Russia in the eighth finals.
