With the qualification for the 1/8th finals already in their pocket, the Belgian women ended the group stage of the European Volleyball Championship on Thursday in Belgrade with a 3-1 defeat against France (27-25, 13-25, 25-19, 25- 20). The Yellow Tigers thus finish fourth in Group A and meet top Italy in the next round.

In the final standings of Group A, Serbia finished in first place with 14 points after five victories. Russia was second with 11 points, France third with 9 points and Belgium fourth with 8 points. Bosnia-Herzegovina (3 points) and Azerbaijan (0) are eliminated.
Because of the fourth place, Belgium will meet the winner of group C. On Monday, Belgium will play against Italy, number eight in the world.
The team led by Gert Vande Broek hopes to do better than at the European Championship of 2019, when it was eliminated by Russia in the 1/8th finals.
This edition of the European Championship will be played by 24 countries in four different cities. The three other groups are organized in Bulgarian Plovdiv, Croatian Zadar and Romanian Cluj-Napoca.
