Bauke Mollema did not get on his bike on Saturday after he crashed heavily in the Tour of Luxembourg on Friday. It went very wrong for the 34-year-old Dutchman in the time trial, which he still finished by the way. Mollema missed a bend and flew over, a piece of his bike also broke off.
“After his crash yesterday, Mollema is still in too much pain, so he will not start in today’s stage. This is to be able to recover with the upcoming competitions ahead,” his team Trek-Segafredo said.
Trek-Segafredo’s physio said that Mollema was okay after the fall. “It was a high-speed fall, but the consequences aren’t that serious,” he said. “Bauke only reported surface injuries to his back, right hip and right elbow.”
Mollema is included in the World Cup selection of national coach Koos Moerenhout. The road race is scheduled for next Sunday (September 26).
