As expected, our Red Dragons narrowly miss a ticket to the eighth finals in the European Volleyball Championship. The last place goes to Portugal.
With a 3-1 win (25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22) against Greece, Portugal was the last to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European Volleyball Championship in Group A on Wednesday in Krakow, Poland. Thanks to the victory Portugal jumped over Belgium to fourth place.
The Red Dragons finish fifth in their group with just one win out of five games. They only left Greece behind. Coach Vital Heyen’s Poland convincingly won 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) against Ukraine on Wednesday and took the group win, ahead of Serbia and Ukraine. The Belgians suffered a narrow 3-2 loss against Portugal in their second game on Friday. That ultimately cost them the qualification.
In the eighth finals, Poland will face Finland, Serbia against Turkey, Ukraine against Russia and Portugal against the Netherlands. In the Czech part of the tournament, the eighth finals are not yet known.
