The American Coco Gauff (WTA 25) has contracted the corona virus and therefore has to cancel the Olympic Games, which start on Friday in the Japanese capital Tokyo.
“It has always been a dream for me to represent my country at the Games,” the 17-year-old tennis player wrote on Twitter. “Hopefully there will be more opportunities in the future.”
It has been raining cancellations for Tokyo for a while now. Earlier in the day, CONI announced that Matteo Berrettini, the losing finalist at Wimbledon, will not travel to Japan due to an injury.
