Bruges goldcrest Antonio Nusa breaks silence after Brentford scandal: “I considered the worst”

The silence is broken. Club's Antonio Nusa (18) has not given any interviews since his canceled transfer to Brentford. Until now: “I have been worried.”

“I thought Brentford was the right step,” Antonio Nusa said in Norwegian media, where he has been called up to the national team. Club Brugge also thought so, not least with a view to the club's coffers: Brentford offered no less than 37 million euros – a record sum. But things went wrong.

“Complications arose,” Nusa continues. In concrete terms: Brentford discovered a growth injury to the knee, the deal was canceled. “I was worried, it had to be investigated to the bottom. After additional checks in Norway, Brugge and I received the news that nothing serious was happening.” A relief, but the damage had been done, also because all medical details were leaked: “It's uncomfortable when you try to find answers yourself and it seems like everyone around you has the answers. That's not fun, especially because a lot was wrong.”

It was a frightening period, says Nusa: “I expected the worst (a career that was in danger, ed.). After all, it's about your health. As a footballer you want your body to be in order.”

Nusa admits: “It was one of the hardest things I've ever experienced. I was ready for a transfer, it seemed like it was going to happen, then it didn't happen. It was also difficult for my family: we had a lot of questions.”

“I can't say I'm happy that this happened – of course not – but it's good that I saw that side of football. It was educational. And I now know that nothing is certain until everything is arranged. Oh well, I haven't lost anything fundamental.”

What in the summer?

In Bruges it has been heard that Nusa, who could also count on interest from Chelsea, among others, does not rule out an additional season for Jan Breydel. “We'll see what happens in the summer,” Nusa is mysterious about his future. “I'm keeping all options open. I am now concentrating on Bruges. I want to play football, not think too much.”

Nusa, who will not play two ninety minutes in the friendlies with Norway against the Czech Republic and Slovakia, concludes positively: “I am a happy person again.” In West Flanders they like to read it: Club needs the best Nusa to surprise in the play-offs and in Europe.
