UEFA elected English captain Harry Kane as Man of the Match on Wednesday evening after the semi-final between England and Denmark at the European Football Championship. The 27-year-old attacker kicked his country to the final in overtime.
Kane initially missed his penalty after 104 minutes. Schmeichel went to the right corner but released the ball, on which the Tottenham striker was still able to tap in.
“I have to say that my penalty was not taken very well,” Kane said at the press conference afterwards. “I was lucky that I could still tap him in the recapture. Sometimes it’s okay. And luckily for us that was the case tonight.”
“It was a different win than in the other matches at this European Championship,” Kane continued. “We had to go far to get them. We did not panic after the backlog. We immediately created some chances and equalized quickly. We were in control in the second half. On Sunday we play our first final. What a wonderful opportunity. We have to grab it. We are celebrating now, but will quickly turn our attention to Sunday.”
